In Search of the Perfect Shift

In preparation for my sister's wedding (in which I'm her only attendant) I need a dress. I've decided on a shift dress. It is a hard pattern to make because it looks so simple, but if you don't get the darts in the right place... disaster!

Here is a picture of my inspiration, a dress by Veronique Branquinho I found in Vogue Nippon some years ago. I find the script from Jane Eyre written on it intoxicating.


This is my reproduction in cotton before I go all out in silk. My version is a bit wider at the hem, and has a shallower neckline. I am still trying to decide whether that's what I want to stick with.
